The last 2 days I had some time to work on the resin fireplace that was laying around overhere since 2012! I finally had the nerve to start with the marbling of it.
This fireplace will be fitted in the parlour of my canal house. But where do you find marble in the colors that will fit this room? Indeed...you won't find them but you can find the right paint tubes to do the tric for you and ofcourse I had a good look at the reall marble in our hallway. After the first layers of paint I thought this will never start looking like real marble.
It didn't stop me...at this point it could only be improved was my opinion. So after a good nightrest I went on, drawing lots of tiny cracks and a few ocher spots for a warmer feeling. It's fun to do and in the end I was even pleased with the result. See for yourself and let me know what you think, okay?
Here's a close up of the first occupant of my canal house. So no one chases her of the sofa at this stage! And don't worry in the meantime I look after her.
It turned out very well! I know what you mean when you think halfway through that you've ruined it...I feel the same way every time to do a stone finish. :D
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat second photo is especially nice...great accessories and perfect lighting!
Hi Otterine,
VerwijderenIt's funny when you think you're making a mess and afterwards draw the veins, it starts to look like marble. Thank you glad to see that you like it!
The second photo was made on my desk with the help of a desk lamp
Your marbling looks very realistic what a great job. And your little cavalier is so lifelike, she looks like she belongs on that beautiful couch.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHi Margaret, thank you!
VerwijderenYes I couldn't leave her when I saw her at Miniatura last year. Absolutely the couch is made for her ;-)

BeantwoordenVerwijderengroetjes adrie
VerwijderenBeautiful! The colours are fantastic with the wallpaper, floor and the dog ;-) Is the fabric on the walls the silk we bought together?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLike Brea (otterine) said, when you're halfway marbling something, it feels like it is all wrong, but you have to keep going and then all of a suddden the marble appears! Did you use oils or acrylics?
Hi Josje,
VerwijderenFinally I did some marbling! Glad to see you like it. The colors worked out fine. First I thought of red marble bt that would be to bold for my taste(well for this room)! Yes that's the silk we bought at that wonderfull shop, which I have to visit again this spring/summer for some more nice things.
No this time I used the acrylics one was the same color that was used for the woodwork. But next time, probably the floor of the hallway will be done in oilpaint.
Hello Jeff,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI thin k the marble is terrific. You really put a lot of detail into it and the marbeling and vaining is very well done.
that puppy is just wonderful and looks so cozy on the couch.
Big hug,
Giac
Hi Giac,
VerwijderenAgain thank you so much. Glad to see you all like it so far. It was a fun project to do especially the vaining part. Adn after that you really want to put the gloss varnis on it to complete the "marble look".
Yes that puppy had to come home with me and I even let her lie on the silk couch!
You did an amazing job with this fireplace! very good marble effect, my compliments!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHi FS,
VerwijderenThank you so much.
I was affraid there where to many veins in the marble at first.
It looks great! Nice use of colors. Keep up the good work.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThanks Troy... how went the move to your new house? Nearly unpacked?
hoi jeffrey,
BeantwoordenVerwijderensorry voor het late reageren.
ben het met alle bovenstaande posts eens, het marmeren is super gelukt en dat hondje is to die for!
prachtige plaatjes zo
groeten,
gee
Hoi Gee,
VerwijderenWees gerust er staat geen termijn om te reageren...elke reactie vroeg/laat is een leuke verrassing! Bij deze dank!
Ja het hondje ik kon haar niet meer loslaten toen ik aan de stand stond in Birmingham.
Your marbling is excellent and the second photo looks so real.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHi Irene,
VerwijderenThank you, the marbling was great fun....and no tidy working just create spots and cracks for that marble look!
The second picture is my favorite the way she lies on the couch!
Hi Jeffry
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat a wonderful job you have done on the fireplace. It looks so realistic. I wish I was able to do a marble effect, but sadly I need to keep on practicing!
The dog looks very happy!
Simon
Hi Simon,
VerwijderenThank you so much! Glad to see you all like it so much. and let me tell you marble effects before this looked dreadful before.
So keep on practising!
Yes she's very happy on "her" couch.
I poked the first picture to get a close up look, and it looks wonderful, great job! I can relate to what you said, being half way and wondering how it will all merge together :/ ? But your fire place is gorgeous :D I love your choice in marble, it works so well with the rest of the room. Very sumptuous. Must be the house of a tradesman with Mercurius on the mantle.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI only marbled twice before in miniature. Just on a big sheet, to cut out wall tiles from later. Initially it felt like making an abstract painting and there's no cohesion. What helped me a lot was researching the different marbles that are around. Some species are quite distinct in how they look and whether and to what extend they're veined.
It must have been really hard for you on that odd shaped piece! Great you took it on, now you've conquered this the rest of your house will be a piece of cake :)))
Hi Debora, great to hear that you've liked it! Hahaha....well it's going to be a house with a long history so who knows;-)
VerwijderenWorking on that odd piece was just great because it was impossible to draw straight/neat lines on this surface.
Well it will be easier to eat a piece of cake....but it's great fun to work on this house!
Thank you for your nice comment!
What a cute dog! I just found your blog, everything is very beautiful! Hannah
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHi Hannah she really has a personality don't you think. She's made by Sarah Hendry of Pocket people. Welcome and glad to see that you like my work.
