What happens before you read a book?

Well after the part of writting and printing ofcourse. Then you start with the task of bookbinding.
I did this during a class of Tine Kreijne a while ago.

We've started with the printed sheets, which contain the text and pictures of the book.

With this tool ,that will create the spine of the book, we've started working.

Here we've put the first, which is the last section of the book, in it's place and sewn it to the treads(spine).

And just continue till you've put all the sections into place,  yet another time consuming task.

Finished!!! But where are my glasses........??? Those characters are soooo tiny maybe I'll stick to the drawings for the time being ;-)

    1. Hi Janice, you're welcome I just wanted to share how much work it is to make these tiny books.
Something we've easily forget when we're at a dollhouse show ;-)

  5. The book looks wonderful. Do you cut the pages to size once you have them all stiched and lined up? Thank you for sharing =0)

    1. Hi Pepper, glad to see you like the book as well.
Yes it's much "easier" to cut the pages to size when all is stiched and lined up. But still a very delicate job to do.

  7. What lovely informative pictures Jeff. We all love miniature books but I don't think we (certainly I didn't) give much thought to all the detailed work involved in a really beautifully handcrafted one.

    1. Hi Irene,
Exactly! When we're at a show you don't see all the labor that has gotten into such a piece! Since most of it's work is covered by a nice leather book cover. Glad to see that you liked the information about bookbinding.

  9. Wonderful technique to learn! The spine looks so beautiful, it is almost a shame to put the cover on. Another great class you took, with another great result.

    1. Hi Josje,
I know it's a shame to cover the spine. When you have finished the spine neatly it looks very pretty.
